Dried fruit has a much longer shelf life than fresh fruit; for example, a fresh fig may only last about a week on the counter, whereas a dried fig can last up to a year and still be edible! Other uses for dried fruit include incorporating them into a variety of recipes and keeping some on hand in an emergency go-bag.
